The following information is intended for ScienceCloud Team Admins.

Prerequisite: Login credentials enabling access the ScienceCloud Administration features.

To access the Administration page:

  1. Log into ScienceCloud.
  2. From the menu bar, click the Administration icon sc_admin_icon.png
  3. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to set up new ScienceCloud projects.

Instructions for Setting up New ScienceCloud Projects

From the ScienceCloud Administration page, perform the following steps in order:

Step Task How To
1 Create a new project
  1. Click on Projects.
  2. Click sc_add_icon.png.
  3. Assign an Id to the project.
  4. Click the User Permissions tab and assign user permissions to the project.
2 Create a batch group

Tip: Batch group is the new name for library. Batches are registered into batch groups.

  1. Click on Groups.
  2. Change the View to Batch Groups.
  3. Click sc_add_icon.png
3 Share the batch group with the project
  1. From the Groups page, click on the batch group.
  2. Click edit.png
  3. Select the project(s) that should contain this batch group.
4 Create an assay group

Tip: An assay group is a collection of one or more assays and dictionary items that can be shared with multiple projects.

  1. Click on Groups.
  2. Change the View to Assay Groups.
  3. Click sc_add_icon.png.
5 Share the assay group with the project
  1. From the Groups page, select the assay group created previously.
  2. Click edit.png.
  3. Select the project that should be shared with the assay group.
6 Create an assay and put the assay in the assay group
  1. Click on Assays.
  2. Click sc_add_icon.png.
  3. Assign a name, short name, and type to the assay.
  4. In the Groups section, select the assay group where the assay should be placed. 
  5. Click Next.
  6. Associate organisms, test parameters, dose units, and time point units with the assay.
  7. To create new organisms, test parameters, and units, use the Add New buttons.
7 Create dictionary items
  1. Click on Dictionaries.
  2. Change the View.
  3. Click sc_add_icon.png to create team-level dictionary items, such as salts, operators, analytical types, compound types, and compound statuses.


After the above tasks are complete, users who have permissions on the project can register both chemistry and biology data into the batch group associated with the project.


  • Batches are registered into batch groups that are associated with one or more projects.
  • Assays and dictionary items are associated with assay groups, which are linked to projects so that biology data for those assays can be registered on batches within those projects.
